Good morning. I am taking the Wild Thing lesson and trying to dial in the tone. From the lesson I understand the amp is a 60s Vox amp. I have had some trouble getting the settings on the amp right and need some help. I have a fender mustang II amp and have a Vox as an option. Also if you you have some tips for my guitar settings tone, vol and position. I have a fender blacktop Strat HH. Really appreciate the help. Beach1

Hi Beach1,

The lesson was published before we figured out we need a "Gear & Tone" lesson but I'll see if I can help out. i can tell by the tone that it's not too overdriven, similar to what Anders uses in some of the blues lessons.

Without looking at the amp and hearing it, I would guess lower gain (4-5) so you get that overdriven sound without too much distortion, bass around 4, mid around 5 and treble around 7. I would keep the guitar volume and tone at 10, using the bridge pickup.

let me know how it goes?

I'm guessing the P90 added to the jangly overdrive part. Let's the overdrive stay kinda 'clean'.

I used to be like 'why would a hard rock band/song need anything but a humbucker? No I find I like recording overdriven stuff with my Strat cuz it lets to overdrive do the work and keeps it clean at the same time.

So anyway, you may not have the choice for a single coil or P90 but keep in mind that it's overdriven and yet clean-like.

Wow! The guitar and amp sounds great with the settings Neal. I also looked at the overdrive you mentioned Jeff. I am good to go now. Thanks again! Beach1
