I've read the hype but is it worth my hard earned money?

I've never used one myself, but I've heard awesome recordings made with them. I don't think they're well suited to stage use, but that's one one dandy piece of home studio kit!

My guitar teacher uses one, even for performing. He plays rock music but everything goes through a solid-state amp. He uses a tube preamp and a pod - among other things - to get his different tones and effects. I don't really use that sort of thing, but they can sound very good. Generally used more for recording, but that's not their only use.

If you really must know!

BTW, you posted to that thread. I am told that memory functions deteriorate as a result of the aging process. :D

Hey, you're posting a link to MY age?
I'm 19 now, if that means anything. I've been playing for about 4 years I reckon.

I've never been able to try one....but really want to! I saw Eric Johnson play a small venue and that's all he used.
Strat>>some chorus pedal>>POD>>Blues Jr. Amp and a Fender Champ. Sounded killer.

hhmmmmm..... i still think it is more suited for studio work rather than live, even though it does have a brill live tone. the main problem is the patch changing thingyum. it is a tiny button on the front and if you want more versitility you will have to fork out for the footswich im afraid. if you want my opinion (which no-one ever does) you are better of with a multi-fx pedal. unfortunetly it is a trade-off for tone against versitility. however if you have a good amp, it shouldn't make that much difference to the tone

Okay, here's my 2 cents....again....I don't think anything is as good as a good Tube amp complimented by good ole stomp boxes. You just can't beat the tone. There's no substitute. Multi units are cool and fun for recording, but I'll always use my pedal board live. But, yes, I want a POD too. MORE I NEED MORE!

I have a POD pro, and I love it. I also have the pedal for it and it is very versatile. I'm running it though a mackie power amp to a Marshall cab. For me this was the most convenient setup, as far as being able to use one rig for recording and playing live. If you're big into effects, you might want to go the multi-effects rought, but if you're in it for the tone and versatillity, it's the best thing next to actually having all the amps.
Hey...sh*t happens ;)

It does create amazing tones. It has great versability. I use a POD 2 and I really love it.

I saw Rick Emmitt (Triumph) do a small venue gig using the POD alone. And I've had pretty good experiences both recording and playing live with it.
