Not sure if I am the only one, but I find talking guitar helps learning, remembering, putting into practice easier. Kind of like learning to drive. We grow up watching our parents do it because we know some day we are going to step behind the wheel.

I find myself doing this with guitar. I may not always have my guitar in hand, but I might watch a lesson, even on Youtube, read a forum, think about a scale in my head, etc.

Physical practice is essential, but filling the brain with guitar tidbits seems to help.

Hi Swright00,

You are absolutely right about that.

The brain learns in a variety of ways. Even if you don't have your hands on the guitar, you can learn by visualizing the skills you are working on, by watching videos, by listening to guitar instruction, etc.

Right on!

Think about it. Consider the "^" to be arrows pointing to the previous post and the text to be a comment on that post.

Now you've gone and caused a hijack that really contributes nothing. :D

I omitted to say I agreed with the OP - that was my intended contribution. Unfortunately I was confused (and still am) by your comment. I still can't work out what "why I forum" means.

My apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread - seems I've unwittingly fallen into the trap I've been critical of elsewhere. C'est la vie. I'll make my next post on-topic for sure.

Maybe it was a little obfuscated. Basically, I was "pointing" to what the OP posted and saying (or trying to say) this is why I participate in forums and other guitar related things.

I don't have the luxury to spend hours playing every day, so all the rest helps, such as YouTube and forums like this. I'm a member of half a dozen forums on the general topic and I read them all every day. Lots of times I can take something I've seen or read through the day and apply it in the evening when I have a chance to play.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

FWIW, Razbo was using the word forum as a verb, instead of as a noun.

Stated in proper full English (which may or may not be Razbo's first language? :p ), "The post above mine is an example of why I read, post in and generally make use of internet forums."

Hope that helps clarify. In my opinion, both RickBlacker & Razbo are being good-natured in their back & forth joking. In my personal experience, I've seen much worse on web forums. :( What these guys do is not even close to "trolling". I sincerely hope it hasn't offended you. Having interacted with them for a while now, I think they are sincere & benevolent individuals. :)

I agree 100% that talking/watching guitar is the best way to go. I sit at work during the day and watch the lessons here over and over. Then when I get home in the evening I find it much easier to pick up my guitar and play that lesson out a lot smoother then when I was trying to do it all at once. Hands down this is a great site and I am so glad I found it and became a full member!! Some great folks on this site no doubt.

Top quality reply there.

Shame about the last bit. Talking in code and backslapping -

A clique (pronounced /ˈkliːk/, also US: /ˈklɪk/) is an inclusive group of people who share interests, views, purposes, patterns of behavior, or ethnicity.[1] A clique as a reference group can be either normative or comparative. Membership in a clique is typically exclusive, and qualifications for membership may be social or essential to the nature of the clique.

Hmmmmm

"Talking Guitar Making Learning Easier"

Since we are talking about the subject of the English language and how some people can butcher it, I never opened this thread because I thought it was about building guitars... "Talking guitar making..."

As if talking about guitar making (building) enables some to learn it easier.

Well at least Im not confused anymore. And yes, that is probably one of the sole reasons this forum exist and why people participate. Talking about guitar definitely helps, and of course is entertaining.

GT is an interest group not a clique. I was trying to point out the negative aspect of a clique and failed miserably. Perhaps a more accurate definition is -

a small close-knit group of people who do not readily allow others to join them.

It's not just evident in this thread but in the forum as a whole e.g.

[QUOTE=Razbo]I was trying to include him in another post... :(

Where were you "trying to include him in another post... "?
Here's one where my contribution seems to have been ignored! -

As for the ironic trolling it's just regrettable that I've unwittingly hijacked the thread but I hold my hands up to that and apologise for it.

You should open up your private messages so we could carry this on in private. It's not fair to the other members to continue this in public.

You also have the ability to add me to an Ignore List. Just click on my name and check it out. I'd be sad, though, 'cause I added you to my Buddy List. IN fact, you are the only one in it. We should start a clique!! ;)
