Anybody know how to set up your own internet radio station? Like what you'd need as far as software and equipment. This would be for indie bands etc..

http://www.shoutcast.com read up there, thats still good if you're using *nix as well. But look for icecast instead.

Hold on now.

OS X can run tons of *nix software. If you can't get the actual shoutcast server to work, try icecast, it more than likely runs well in Mac OS.

Too true. Sony Beta was demonstrably superior to VHS, but completely lost the market to technohicks that wanted to record up to six hours of their favourite low-fi drivel on each cassette.

Macs, on the other hand, are only arguably superior, and lost major market share due to incompatibility issues with any other hardware or software.

{shrug} Not the same thing at all.

I don't use OSX cause it's not compatible with any of the audio software I use. If I upgrade it means replacing thou$ands of bucks worth of VST plug-ins.

Humm, I used to be a devout PC-a-holic, I currently own 3, two operating at well over 1.5 GHz.

I recently got me a 1.25 GHz G4 powerbook and it paddles (and then kicks) the behind of any PC I have ever been any where near ! OSX.3 (Panther) is not perfect...but relative the to Microsoft alternative well, there is no comparison !

So don't be MAC-a-phobes ! The are very cool bits of kit and as for the G5, it is just ball breakingly powerful, Iā€™m not ever joking, check out the specs (and the price) !

I no longer worry about viruses, plug and play (MACs have had it before it was even given a name), networking, printer sharing, viruses, popups, viruses and oh did I mention networking and viruses !

The only bad thing is the price !
(15' G3 powerbook came in at just over 3k...pooo !)

... all of which supports my point that it is arguably superior. :p
