My mailbox is totally filled with spam again which usually means that a new virus is making it's rounds.
PC people, especially you Entourage users... please get it through your heads.... don't open email attachments....EVER..... unless you want the latest virus softrware on it taking every address in your address book and using it to spread the virus around.

Here's the info on this one:

TO: This message has been sent to numerous Email users all over the Internet
DATE SENT: (Varies)
FROM: (Varies)
SUBJECT: (Varies)
BODY OF THE EMAIL MESSAGE: Varies - but may contain one of the following body messages:
- Mail transaction failed. Partial message is available.
- The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary attachment.
- The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII encoding and has been sent as a binary
attachment
------------------------
DETAILS:
- The message will appear to come from someone you know (Or from someone who has
you listed in their address book)
- The virus should not infect your computer unless you have opened the attachment.
- The virus may attempt to open NOTEPAD and display random characters

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE BEEN INFECTED?
- Contacts from your Email Address Book claim that you have sent them a strange
Email message.
- The Windows Notepad program opens and displays random characters

STEPS ON CLEANING THE W32/Mydoom@MM VIRUS
-------------------------------------------
IF YOU HAVE OPENED THE INFECTED ATTACHMENT:
* McAfee has released a stand-alone virus removal tool which can remove
this virus. Their free 'Stinger' virus removal tool can be downloaded
from their Website: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

NOTE: Even if you own a virus scanning software package, it is very important that you download the latest virus definition file so that your software can clean this new virus.

2. Run your virus scanning software which will detect the virus and offer to clean it from your system. Select the option that cleans it from your system.

IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE EMAIL, BUT HAVE NOT OPENED THE INFECTED ATTACHMENT:

1. Delete the Email Message.

2. Empty your deleted Email folder.

3. Update your existing Anti-Virus Software.

Thats a whole lot of information over nothing.

Basic Rules....dont open emails from people that unfamiliar, and if someone you knew sent you an email, just scan the attachement with an anti-virus program. AND what are you talking bout spaM....we all get it....dude just put on a filter

Filters don't work on this one. It's disguised as email from people you know.

then its even easier....and also you know who doesn't know how to use a computer when they're spreading viruses like that. (not them intentionally sending viruses) Whats the worry then? its so easy to spot a virus from people in your contacts

Normally I wouldn't bother even mentioning an ordinary virus but this one is a special case.

Here's some more news:
An email worm known as MyDoom, which masquerades as an advisory message from a computer technician, has become the worst internet virus since SoBig last year.

Anti-virus expert Alan Bell said yesterday that MyDoom-infected emails were dominating about 10 per cent of world internet traffic, nearly twice the infection rate of SoBig - meaning it was being carried by tens of millions of bogus emails every hour.
Some reports suggest it has been deliberately built to attack a US software company that has incurred the wrath of the worldwide community that uses the Linux operating system.

Others suggest it is coming out of a Russian server site that contributes to the general spam epidemic.

So far, about 100,000 machines worldwide have been infected, although early action by corporate networks in updating anti-virus software has prevented serious damage to computer systems.

Like others of its kind, MyDoom infects only computers using Windows and many home users have been hoodwinked by the apparently helpful nature of the host email's message.
