I made this thread cause I wanted to know that if you are like me. I had just bought a new guitar and I wanted to know if you ever banged it up a bit when you first got it. Tell me is I am not alone.

Oh yeah, I throw my precious Strat around a lot. It's got a deep, thin line-shaped dent on the back of the neck, around the 7th fret or so. Bunch of other little nicks all around.

It's actually pretty clean for the amount of abuse I give it.

... and that's all I have to say about that.

I wish mine was beat up more! I don't like having a guitar that looks brand new. My Tele has lots of scratches on the back and around the edges. Lots of smudge marks, the edges of the neck is all worn and kinda looks a bit discolored. Ah, the beauty of old axes.

All of my axes are old, dating back to the 80's. And all of them look well-cared-for. Not brand-new. There are tiny scratches on the pick guards from some exhuberant strumming. The backs show some dulling of the finish from rubbing against my clothes. No belt buckle rash! I wear my belt set off to the side so that the buckle never gets near the guitar. The frets don't show much wear, because I routinely have them re-crowned. I think a battered guitar shows a player's lack of respect for the instrument. "Battle scars" don't show that you've been through a lot - they show that you have failed to protect your guitar from damage!

Damn?! THE 80s?!! I didn't know they even made guitars back then! DAMN!

http://www.sambob.net/pictures/DSC00339.html

Despite the 70s looking finish (it was badly refinished in 1973), that is a '54 strat right there. And I still play the damn thing.

I wish the frest were still like...I dunno, even slightly raised above the fingerboard.

Nice axe! Dayum! That '54 is in better shape than I am! (I'm a '52 model :) ) But then, I didn't get refinished in '73 .... LOL

Never kept it in a case, tripped over it numerous times, dropped it way too many times to remember, never use a guitar stand...just sorta lean it up against whatever's handy....clean it maybe once a year...
It's a total mess but that's what I like about it.
Every bump and scrape has a story behind it and it's worn away in all the right places.
It drives me nuts when some guys won't even let you pick up their guitar just in case you scratch it.
It's like..jeez bud, get it laminated or put it in a vault or something.
What's the point of having it if you aren't going to constantly use it all the time and make it a part of your daily life.
Hey you kids! Get outta that Jello tree!!

haha, im too poor to treat my guitars badly. My jackson and les paul special, the two which i use the most, are in really good condition. Besides the knick on the body of the jackson.

I've gotta couple of nicks on the body of my danelectro. Plus the tuners for the b and g string have gotten all screwd up.... the strings go out of tune on like one bend.

Pretty much all my graphic guitars are minty fresh. Probably because I don't play em. My favorite though is my green Charvel. Once upon a time it was the pride of San Dimas, then through the ages, a neck broken and replaced here, a tremelo ripped from the body there (I ordered it and actually had to send a Floyd to Charvel to keep from getting the damn Kahler tremelo on it.) Well ripped from the body two or three times. I never could learn a lesson. It's got bumps, bruises, lot of paint wear. Pretty soon it will be on the third neck (I am scouring Ebay for a strat headstock Charvel neck every day...) It's missing all the covers (tremelo, controls, etc.) The pickguard is broken at the horn, and has dice for knobs that I drilled myself. I am a Kramer man, but damn this one is my favorite!
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

My guitar has two dings in it. The one on back of the guitar is about the size of a pencil eraser and I don't have any idea how it got there. The one on the side is from the time I passed out from not eating enough while I was holding the guitar. Real slick, I know.

(woohoo! first use of my profile!)
I've got 2 guitars now (neither well known) but they both have marks in. my first (gould strat-copy) has a few dents from dropping it, accidently hitting the wall/desk/anything else about. my second guitar (pure black encore) has some bits where the paint has been chipped...and where i rest my arm i have worn the finish down quite a bit! :D

You can prevent those buckle scars by moving your belt over so that the buckle is off to the side. Instead of threading the belt through the loops on your pants starting at the middle, start with the loop at your left hip, and go from there. It takes a while to get used to, but its well worth it. Probably right - I've been wearing my belt that way since '68, and most people don't even notice. {shrug}

my strat gets babied... .I was taught a long time ago that if you take care of your instrument, it'll take care of you...

I am looking for an older strat with that "worn & used" look to it, I just love that... the rubbed down finish, used neck, worn pickguard... the look of a true workhorse guitar. But to purposly abuse it so it gets that look.. never! I'd rather know that the marks on the guitar are from countless hours of practicing and performing... that, to me anyway, kind of endears the guitar to it's owner...

Hmm, my guitars are always above my belt.

No funky belt wearing, no scratches.. I like it!
