Hi everyone,
I'm now into my 6th vocal lesson and found that it is very difficult to concentrate on my singing while playing. I can sing much better with a music track than with my guitar. I hate it because I really miss playing guitar but feel it is very important to learn to sing after all these years of being "the worst singer on the planet". Only so much time in the day. Any suggestions on how to do both? Would greatly appreciate any input!

Sorry no good advice but keep up the work ethic. I'm sure once quality singing becomes more natural you'll be fine. Best keep yours git chops up too. Might help keep them both more interesting.

Thanks for the encouragement! my singing has actually improved! By the way... My Ibanez was my favorite guitar to play, even over my Les Paul. It was stolen last year! BOOO!

Boo, indeed! Let's get Anton Chigurh on the case. Used to play a ~3000 dollar LP 67 (i believe) anniversary edition and you are so right. My af120 on my neck pickup renews my love of the guitar every time I play it. I'll leave the singin' to you though.

If it weren't for the fact I'm actually learning something I would have quit after the 1st lesson. It's definately a compromise...Jurys still out! i'll keep you posted. Do you have any tracks so I could hear your guitar?

I just got my new vox vt20+ and actually getting a recording setup this month so yes soonly!! I get where you're comin from I felt I couldn't keep playing until I got my af and started studying music theory hardcore every night. It's been a couple months and it made me look at the stuff I already knew how to play differently. And the vox is just ridiculous. Wish I had it when I first started playing years ago. There's some irony in the fact I dated a trained coloratura opera singer for 7 years but she refused to teach me music theory. lol.

I write "poems" and lyrics and would really like to be able to put it together with my playing. How long ya been takin voice lessons before ya noticed improvement?

Likewise, the people of GT going to be able to hear those pipes some day?

My singing improved after the 1st lesson. I am taking lessons from the best vocal coach on the planet and coincidentally is a tremendous opera singer as well. Wasn't easy to convince her to teach me either! I still miss playing my guitar like I used to, but my time is very limited right now so I figure if I can learn to sing better, it will be worth it....after all it's like riding a bike, you really can resume were you left off. Unfortunately I doubt if my playing will have improved any. It's definately a trade off!
