I just want to see what people think on this subject. How would you rank Megadeths CDs in order from best to worst (or least best).

From Wiki:

* Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! (Combat Records, 1985)
* Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? (Capitol Records, 1986)
* So Far, So Good... So What! (Capitol Records, 1988)
* Rust in Peace (Capitol Records, 1990)
* Countdown to Extinction (Capitol Records, 1992)
* Youthanasia (Capitol Records, 1994)
* Cryptic Writings (Capitol Records, 1997)
* Risk (Capitol Records, 1999)
* The World Needs A Hero (Sanctuary Records, 2001)
* The System Has Failed (Sanctuary Records, 2004)
* United Abominations (Roadrunner Records, 2007)

The only album I have owned and listened to in its entirety is Rust In Peace. And I rank it as the greatest metal album ever. Thats why I didn't participate in the thread.

Being a bit of a Megadeth fanboy, I can actually participate in this - but I may be one of the only ones :o :

1:Rust in Peace The best ones are all almost too close to call, but this one stands out, for reasons which have already been much discussed... basically, if you like metal and you don't know this album, give it a listen!

2: Tie - The System Has Failed and Youthanasia The former was the second metal album I ever bought, so I suppose there's that - but even comparing it to the others now, it stands out. One or two iffy tracks, but mostly excellent. And the latter is undeniably a classic - but I think I'm the only person I know who ranks it over Peace Sells.

3: Countdown to Extinction Probably one of the most consistent metal albums outside the Iron Maiden catalogue.

4: Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?

5: So Far, So Good... So What? "Set The World Afire" is one of their heaviest songs ever - I must see it played live before I die!

6: The World Needs a Hero

7: Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! Haven't actually heard this one all the way through, but the tracks I've heard are in themselves better than number eight and number nine...

8: Cryptic Writings Don't get me wrong, a good album - "A Secret Place", "Mastermind" and "She-Wolf" are genius - but it doesn't really stand up to the rest of their work.

9: Risk What I consider to be their only bad album - "Crush 'em" is one of the worst songs I've heard lately. But it still had a couple of good moments.

I didn't rank United Abominations, because it doesn't come out for two weeks yet... :eek:

My top three:
1. Rust in Peace (also best metal album ever recorded IMO)
2. Countdown to Extinction (Mustaine's solos are at their best on this one, no doubt due to working with Marty Friedman - Marty's solo's as usual are the highlight of the album)
3. Peace Sells... But Who's Buying (very groundbreaking at the time - great solos from Chris Poland and nice dark energy from a drug adled Mustaine)
Liked all of the other ones except for Risk which was rubbish IMO - at least they tried something new even though it failed - looking forward to the new one but will certainly miss the lead work of Marty Friedman

Ya I was going to make a poll, but I knew Rust in Pease was going to be at the top anyways lol. Didnt want to bother trying to figure out how to make a poll that allows you to rank items (if you even can). The first CD I ever bought of them was Cryptic Writings, and I really like that album. I know people say it's not as good as their other albums, but I think its one of the best. It has a whole different sound to it than the others do.

I pretty much agree with everything you have said there! Oh yeah I have seen them play Set the World Affire!! :D A few times. I have seen them in concert a half dozen times over the years now! Always been a big fan. I am not that fond of their newer stuff though. My favorite are So Far, So Good So What and Peace Sells.... Although I am still a little pissed that Mustaine went to Dean just for the promotions, sponsorship and money!!! :(

If I knew some kind of dorky 'deth-head handshake/salute, I'd use it now!

True about Mustaine's endorsement switch, but at least his new signature guitar is one of the better-looking Dean guitars around. Probably doesn't sound anywhere near as good as his ESP, though... ;)

Yeah but I always sorta looked up to him. And then when I read that interview, somewheres, where he said that he basically couldn't get his way with Jackson/ESP. He decided not to play anymore and take his ball home. He made it sound like the only reason he went with Dean was because they had the best offer to benefit HIM! Nevermind they may not be what he really loves to play and prefers...... But I guess the money does make the world go 'round!

Ok I have heard the entire new CD and its real good but I will say Count Down is their best work to date.
