I have heard only good things about marshall... so I pretty much want to get a marshall, my current amp is a 15 watt practice amp that constantly buzzes at medium to high volumes, and now that I'm starting to play in public (I get to play for an audience for the first time tomorrow morning, wish me luck!) the buzzing is posing a problem, I don't know which amp to get though, I was looking at different kinds of marshalls, and the AVT150H combined with a AVT 412 cab looks like a pretty good combo... but I don't know, I really want an amp that can have some good moderate overdrive, but still have the potential for heavy metal, the AVT150H has 2 over drive channels, so I was thinking that it would probably be what I am looking for, but price wise it is a little high, I really want a quality professional sound, would this be the best way to go, or do you have some other suggestions?

hey six strings,do yourself a huge favor and check out a carvin MTS3200 head.

www.carvin.com

All tube head at $599

Or even an SX series might do it for you...i suggest tubes, but if you go the SX route, you can get an entire stack for under $700(for the SX300H stack I think)

Good luck!

Carvin make some really nice kit however it is a good idea to also look at a few competitors as well as Carvin prices are sometimes a little hi.

Marshals are also nice and, if you pick carefully pretty versatile. I have 4 at the moment from a little 1w mini marshals that runs on a 9v battery, a lead 50, an MG15 MSII and a TSL100 / 4 x 12 monster.

All are good in there own way though the TSL is my favorite !

I didn't really even check out the TSL series, because it's name is "triple super lead" and to me, lead is solos and singles string riffs... and I'm playing mostly rythm and power chords... oh and by the way, I checked out the carvin MTS3200... does it even have an overdrive channel? it said it had a clean/crunch, and a sustain channel...

Yea the Carvin has a distortion channel. The clean and the distortion channels have their own EQs and levels.

Don't get confused by the labels 6strngs...unless its a single channel head, you will have a distortion channel. The name isn't supposed to imply its use.You can roll off the gain on a 'super crazy crunch' channel and get a dirty clean sound(I made that up).

Hey,doc,is there really competition with carvin for price/sound out there?

Yep I was looking at Carvin desks / microphones recently.

I ended up with a 24 track Peavey desk as the price vs features were nicer.

Carvin do make good kit but like anything else it is always good to shop around !

I have a 30 watt Marshall amp and I personally think it has an excellent sound. Though I'm already looking in to upgrading. After I upgrade basses I'm gonna upgrade my amps. I'm still up to suggestions though. I'm not worried about an amp that has built in distortion or anything. All I'm really concerned about is a good clean guitar sound.
