I play a variety of extreme metal, mostly arch enemy and in flames style stuff. I just recently purchased a Schecter blackjack 06. It is one of the best sounding guitars i have played for every genre of music EXCEPT for that style. Are there any possibilities for making it metal-capable or should I take it back (guitar center has a 30 day return policy) and go for a jackson?

Why exactly do you think it's not a good guitar for that kind of music? What kind of sound does this guitar give, and what kind of sound are you looking for?

Schecter guitars are actually made by Cort. Save your $$ and get a Katana from the real company.

Thats weird...Your 006 should be just fine...explain in detail why its not good for death/black metal.Does it just play like crap or does it lack tone/sound for the heavy distortion(which I would be surprised by since it has a JB/59 configuration)?

Also, DONT buy a cort katana(well go ahead if you want)...the bridge, humbuckers and overall appearance isn't as good(in my opinion)AND its around the same price so you wouldn't need to save anyway...though I really dont think that katana would out perform the blackjack 006 since the hardware on the schecter is better.

I play technical death metal and find the JB/59 configuration to be awsome.

What amp and fx are you using?

Also, merely getting a guitar with the name "Jackson" on it doesn't mean it'll be better suited for the music you're playing. Like to previous poster said, the guitar you have should be perfectly fine for that kind of music.

The Katane is cheaper because it is made up out of lower quality components. You'll save money, but you'll get lower quality too.

I have the Schecter C1 Blackjack and love it. I don't see there being much it can't handle. I playa some fairly heavey stuff from time to time and it plays flawlessly. It's a real workhorse in my opinion.

Your still better off with a schecter or esp for the money CW14....corts stuff simply comes with cruddy hardware.Even the X custom dosn't have good hardware...it has a lousy knock-off floyd. And its still almost a grand!

You can't expect ANY guitar to sound as good tuned way down when its 'setup' to play in standard tuning.Have your guitar setup for the lower tuning...They might adjust the truss rod, slap on some heavier strings(13's) e.c.t.

But before you do that, try raising the pickups a bit.

For C tuning you'll want at least 11-49s. 12s+ would be better.
