Description
Johnny Cash and Buck Owens used the 12 bar form quite a bit. Let's take the chords from the key of E and play the form in their style. That means we're going to use boom chick strumming.
Notice we spend much of our time looking at the pick hand to check out the stumming. That's where most of the technical work happens when playing this exercise. However, most of the work should go on in your mind, where you will be counting the measures of music and remembering what chords are the I, IV, and V chords in the key of E major.
