As far as Steve's lead playing goes, he's a great guitarist to study for all of the signature rock 'n' roll licks and how to bring them into a heavier context. He's very fond of the Chuck Berry-esque unison string bend, and the also using the unison string bend into the first and fifth of any given chord. Another Chuck Berry-ism in Jones' playing is the two string or "double stop" Blues lead built around the minor pentatonic scale.
Another trademark of Steve's lead playing is that he tends to use arpeggiated chords, particularly the D form for melodic emphasis. Here we see the open D chord that we all know and love. As with any other chord shape, the rule on guitar is if you can close the open strings, that chord becomes movable. In this case, we just drop the open string root note (our root is now on the second string) and then our triad becomes movable.
