which do you prefer? the JCM800 or JCM900? the 50 or 100 watt version? also what model of each since there's umpteen dozen of each one. I really want one of these heads, but don't know quite enough about them to make a decision and don't know anyone that has either one that I could play on. All I'm looking for is that great Marshall crunch, not versatility. this is the only true sound I lack in my amp arsenal. So, what are your opinions on these amps?

put more simple.......do you prefer the 800 or 900 and why?

The 800s go for way more on ebay.. and people say they are better. But some of the 900s have built in reverb which I consider essential.

I too love haveing reverb, but it's not essential that I have it. how do the 800's and 900's differ tone wise? I guess you could say the tone I'm looking for is a mix between Angus Young, Slash, and Hendrix. also, what about the SLP heads?

I've worked long and hard to aquire all the gear that I have, but it's all worth it. You just have to learn to be patient, because as the old saying goes "all good things will come to those who are patient."

Seems that if you are going for that 80's more toward rock sound, you should head toward the JCM800. Its costly but i've played it and well worth the cash.

Well for a slash tone my JCM2000 kicks ass. People say oh they dont make em like they used to and that the 800s and 900s are better than the new 2000s but I dont agree. I prefer my 2000 to the two 900s Ive had!
