Anybody here into woodworking as a hobby? This is something I've been wanting to get into for some time now, but I really don't know where to start. I'm not talking about large furniture or cabinet type work. I'm talking about small artistic type stuff. I really want to get good at wood carvings like the dragon carving on Azrael's guitar. Anybody got any tips/tricks/suggestions?

I've been into woodworking for a while. My suggestions is to get to know this site here and also this site for tools and just about everything else you will need to pursue your new hobby...

Enjoy...
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

Thanks alot. do you have any suggestions on a kit for carving. I'm looking the site's over, but I'm still not real sure what I need. I have a few celtic knotwork designs that I've drawn that I would like to mess around with. I'm not looking to spend a butt load of $$$ right now, just enough to get me started.

If you are looking for something to do that kind of detail, just get yourself a variable speed dremel-type tool. Mine I picked up with a ton of bit and sanders, a pen extention, and a hanger for $25.00. If you pay for the Dremel name (which I would suggest because they make an awesome router base for it and it won't fit on mine) figure on like $75 or so with about a 100 piece kit.

If you work with wood, you must check out Lee Valley Tools!
