I need this for a project I will be doing for college. So far I have in mind Woodstock, 1991: The year punk broke, DOA. So far I have in mind the topic to be around alternative rock type of movies, but if you know some really good films that have to do with other genres, please share:)
Thanx for any feedback

By genres do you mean various artist in a particular style (punk, classic, 80s etc) or do you mean a particular era of music? Ie do you mean a Zeppelin documentary or a historic film outlining the events leading up to the death of rock and the birth of punk? I think it's on Much More Music that they have one hour shows dipicting what went on musically for one particular year (ie '92 or '86 etc). There might be some more stuff on their website.

Yes, my question is about documentary movies that show the history of a particular band/performer/composer/... Or it could be about some event which involved music, like Woodstock. And yes, by genres I mean styles. About historic films, like the example you gave about events leading up to the death of rock and the birth of punk. I think this falls more under the cathegory of journalism, at least I think my professor will say so, and the project is supposed to be not aout journalism but rather about documentary cinema and in my case the music documentary. So I decided to look for movies which gravitate around alternative rock, but if you saw a great movie about, lets say Jerry Garcia, I will be mopre than happy to check it out. I am open to other styles too.
I hope its not very confusing what I am trying to explain.

There's got to be a crap load of stuff on Nirvana, you know, they were a major chunk of music industry mania. Maybe the whole Seatle (spelling maybe) scene. All those guys, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, .. and that other one, ****. ummmmmm ****. With the singer now of that other band audioslave. Goddamn, what the **** is that band name?

I know there's supposed to be a crap load stuff about Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam but I don't find it. The only movie on this topic which falls under the category of dcumenatary movies is 1991: The year punk broke, which follows the tour of Sonic Youth and Nirvana. All other stuff I have found is either live concerts or TV series, which is not quite a documentary movie.
Besides I am(was) really into Seatle scene, so I am not intersted in historical, journalism type of stuff, I want some real non-fiction which captures the spirit of this era.
