i have a gibson les paul studio, and want to trade it in for a les paul standard, for a few reasons. (i dont know a lot about guitars)

1. the cherry sunburst. my LP Studio is black with chrome pickups, and while it looks great, menacing, etc, i've always wated a sunburst, and as far as i know, they dont sunburst Studios.

2. The Standard must be better, because it costs more.

should i do this? i would have to pay about $400 to make up the difference.

My advice would be to take your git into the store(along with your amp) and see which one you like better.

the only problem with that is that everyone at the store rips, and theyre always playing like 1000th notes with pinch harmonic solos, and i'll look pretty sad.

i get what you're saying though, and i think i'll do it.

OH OH!! I've got to reply on this one!:P

I'm a Lessie and I definately prefer the Standard. Hell, I had an Epiphone, but that wasn't enough, tough that was a pretty good guitar for the money.
I think that the Standard (or Classic, Custom) have more sustain and richer sound. The Studio is more like and extra guitar in my opinion. If a had one, I would keep it and tune it for slide i.ex.
Of cause, the Standard is heavy, but HEY, that's the price of being a Rock n' Roller!!! :D

Peace

....I've played them both when I first got my Epi Std. The Standard had just a hint more sustain probably 'cause of the maple top. The Studio's body is mahogany/alder. The Std. has binding on the body and neck, which is just for looks. The Studio doesn't. Big Deal!
The Studio does come in Sunburst finishes!

the finish on my dad's les paul studio was hideous- it would gum up in a matter of minutes. It's pretty bad when you're wiping crap off of the neck before you're even done playing a song. It's tone was good, but other than that the guitar was a solid "Blah."
But if you like yours... well then that's a different matter entirely. Guitars will vary from year to year, day to day. Go with what feels right.
