There's two guitar "dudes" in Rammstein. One uses a tube amp, the other solid state, I'm assuming that's how they get their sound...

Plus, they record a ****load of overdubs, and run all of that through lots of expensive, great sounding gear...

Never underestimate how much of a difference having two guitarists can have. Unless you're Petrucci, but I think it's a safe assumption not everone here is.

well two guitarists is good, doubling guitars is good.

and even tho they seem to play pretty good live i remember reading in a studio report that one thing they mess around with a lot in the studio is spls transient designer

http://www.spl-usa.com/Transient_Designer/T_US_AUDIO0MEDIA_E.html

this thingy can alter the attack of a signal...that way you can chop a couple of milliseconds off of a note...that way it doesnt swell up (however quickly) --- it's right there as quickly as the snare tone for example.

They overdub a real lot to get full effect, especially on new tracks like Links 234. It gives it very full effect Richard(lead guitarist) said. And I believe Richard uses Mesa Boogie amps which have my personally favorite tone of any tube amp.

I like mesa, but my wallet doesn't back me up on that one.
