Man...thats like tearing a page out of the bible and re-writing your own version and then sticking it back in...why one earth would you want to customize an Lp...You just dont do it, not only does it decrease value nine times outta ten, but it also messes with the perfection.
The only reason to commit such a crime would be to fix up an old, messed up Lp, or to re fret etc...If you do change pickups, make sure you keep the original ones, so that you can put them back in if you choose to sell that axe

I put Sperzel tuners on my studio and don't regret it for a second. Not a difficult mod, had to drill 6 little holes into the head stock.
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

Why customzie a les paul? Because I intend on playing it! Of course I DID sell mine eventually (and it went for more than it originaly would have, with my custom work)
New pickups (Dimarzio breed and paf pro), sperzel tuners, and replaces the fixed bridge in it with a similiar looking piezo bridge.
Still played the same, had better functionality, and sound and of course with the piezo pickup (which I also routed an additional output for), I get a whole new set of tones to play around with.

I dont mean like refinishing them or defacing them!! I lot of people change the pick ups etc, or sand down the neck to make it apparently faster! I never do any of that stuff though. Also new bridges or bigsbys.
Out of all the gibsons I prefer standards tho, Im not a big fan of the classics! Theres some great new finishes for the 03 standards, root beer and gecko!
