Just an observation:
the left hand generally plays "in position" (unless it's sliding around the neck)e.g 1st finger, 1st fret, 4th finger, 4th fret etc.. A player who moved their left hand around more might use the same finger to play at more than one fret and would not necessarily need to use all their fingers. A player who assigned a finger to a fret would have a greater economy of movement. Is 8 finger tapping just an extension of this principle, the use of a system which requires the coordination of every finger?
Quite a lot of my tapping is of this variety but, since I particularly specialise in 7th arpeggios along the lengths of single strings, it is my 1st and 4th fingers that tend to do the bulk of the work.
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?
