2Qs for u's...

1. What's a capo? I know its one of those clamp looking things but what do they do? It does vary where u clamp it right?

2. Whats with those 12 string guitars? I see Don Felder and Jimmy Page using them. I saw them in shops and half the strings are very close to the normal think ones, doesn't this cause some serious fretting problem??

1) A capo is a tool in which you clamp onto a fret to make the tone higher. Its very useful, and mine is my best friend.
2) 12 string guitars are fun, but I don't have one myself. I couldn't really answer this.

I used to play with the 12 string electric guitar of my friend a lot.

It's only a matter of practice, it's easier than it looks.

I played rock with it without any major problem.

12 strings accoustic guitar are WAY worst to handle lol I can't play those without making some buzzing noise but they do make such a great tone. Very rich.

in my (limited) experience playing my brother's pretty bad 12 string, they sounds best when just playing chords. They add a kind of jingle jangle thing to the sound and make the chords sound fuller, because there are twice as many notes. The strings are an octave apart except for on the high b and e strings, i think. Maybe if you play one enough, it'll sounds good doing solos and stuff, but I personally think they shine with chord progressions, acting as a backup to either another guitar or a singer.

well i have a 12 string, and they are an absolute bugger to play. but when (or if) you do play them properly they are amazing instruments. they sound so full and lush. its true they do sound better playing chords, but just about anything will work, except solos with lots of bends. because the strings are slightly apart, when you bend the doubles they dont sound perfctly in tune and get annoying. they are good at everything else though. they kinda make you play in a different style; help you discover new ideas and themes... great things, just dont try to de-tune them! *shudders*

Hendrix played Hear My Train A Coming on a 12 string accoustic if I remember correctly except had it downtuned a tone and a half and was pulling whole tone bends around the 2nd and 3rd fret. That'd be impressive on a 6 string. I haven't heard it in a long time though and can't remember if the bends sounded out of tune (they must've though, I know what you mean).

I was going to say I tried a whole tone bend on the 2nd fret while playing that tune and got it in the eye, but I really didn't. Would've made a decent story though.

i havn't heard that verson of that song. ive lookd for ages but never been able to find it. no offence to the guy but i really cant imagin hendrix playing a 12-string. or any acoustic to be honest. it just doesn't seem his style. bet it sounded incredable though...
