which guitar would you choose....a 7-string or a barritone? I'm thinking about getting one or the other, but have no idea which. which brand/model would you suggest. All I know is that I want a fixed bridge...no tremolo or floyed rose. Thank for your suggestions.

I'd go with a 7 string. As for which model, I have the perfect thing for you. Find yourself a used Ibanez RG7620... fixed bridge, nice pickups stock and of course seven strings. Best thing about it is...half the time at stores it will be cheap as hell. There really isn't a big interest in 7 string playing anymore, I got mine for $100 at a Music-Go-Round, and I've seen them for that little at other places.

the difference between a baritone and a 7-string is, that the baritone has a longer scale which makes it sound alot more powerfull although a 7-string has the same range (downwards). i say get both sooner or later.

How can you tell if its a baritone guitar just by looking at it, is it the length of scale? Its easy for 7 string for obvious reasons..

If I remember right baritones have thicker strings. Either way baritone guitars usually have a significantly increased scale length, you won't have any trouble seeing the difference. You'll have more trouble telling between a baritone guitar and a 6-strign bass than anything else.
