I've got a '01 PRS custom22 that I'm thinking about making a few upgrades to. I want to change the tuning keys out for schaller locking tuners (I'm getting tired of the cam style tuners), possibly change the bridge out for a schaller 455, or 456 bridge, or a gotoh 510 bridge (I have a bad habbit of breaking the high e string while tunning up because of the sharp angle), and possibly changing the nut out for a roller nut (The nut that's on it isn't a big fan of larger guage strings), but that's kind of iffy. I also want to have it set up with a 3-way toggle switch and coil tapping instead of the 5-way rotary switch. Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated!

I've always liked the PRS's I've played and they sounded great to my ears.

I wouldn't modify one if I owned one, sounds great to my ears.

As far as the mods, the only experiences I've had is with the locking tuners, they work very well. :D

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

I'm not trying to change the sound of the guitar. I love the sounds I can get from it! I just don't like the cam type tuning keys and the 5-way rotary switching. As far as the bridge and nut go, that was just a thought. I have a tendancy to play pretty hard sometimes and throw a few of the strings a little out of tune. So I was looking for something to do to help keep me in tune better. Again, I'm not trying to change the sound, and as far as the less switching options go, I only use either the bridge or neck pickup by them selfs anyway (plus, a toggle switch can be switched alot faster than a rotary knob). And as far as the coil splitting goes, I simply like the sound of single coils......more optioins. Again, thanks for any help

I put string saver saddles on mine and that is all Im gona do. Id go for a new axe rather than mess with the PRS even if it is just for the sake of the resale value.

Mine doesn't have a tremelo so I don't think I'd be in luck for the string saver saddles. I'll probably just have the switching changed (since that is a stock option) and maybe some new tuning key's. Another question....the B string tuning key seems to slip sometimes, and with no string on it, it is very loose (wiggles back and forth). I call myself making sure everything is tight, but it still has too much play in it. any suggestions?

I think that we should let him do whatever he likes to his PRS, after all, his name is PRSPlaya!
... and that's all I have to say about that.

hey Dr_Simon, Don't you have a custom 24 with the HFS and vintage bass pickups? How do they compair to the Dragon II pickups? I like my dragon II's, but the neck pup is a little heavy on the bassy side, and the bridge isn't quite as hot as I would like. I've got the PRS dvd that has a demonstration of the different pup's, but I couldn't realy hear much difference.

Yup, I dont know what the dragon II sound like, I imagine they are a bit more LPish but truth be known I dont know !

I do know that the HFS and the vintage bass are one of the best combos I have ever come across, love em to bits !
