I´m just a bit confused what a scale really is:
Is a scale just for example: 1 4
1 4
1 3
1 3
1 3
1 4

ot is this just a pattern, and the pentatonic scale would be when you put the 5 patterns together to one scale over the whole fretboard??? or am i false with this theory.

So if this is right: is knowing these 5 patterns the only way being able to play the scale over the whole fretboard?

Unfortunaly my english is not good enough nor to understand what you are writing (pattern?!) nor to explain complex scales to you, but am I wrong when i say:

1 - 4
1 - 3
1 - 3
1 - 3
1 - 4
1 - 4

Is the 1st fingering in the F minor pentagonic scale? If i remember right, then there is 10 different "fingerings" in a pentagonic scale. You can add tones to every scale, such as blues, hexatonic (don't know if it's spelled correctly) and minor.

Hey Dude,

there is no mystery as to what a scale is. It is, in its most simple form a way of dividing up an octave.

Like ....
Doe Ray Me Fa So La Tee Doh, from Doe to Doe is an octave (or from any open string on the guitar to a note fretted on the 12th fret of the same string).

Now there are many different ways of dividing up an octave which will give slightly different feels or tonality, like Major is happy and minor is sad.

The most common scale is the diatonic Major scale (Doe to Doe as above) however their are also many other ways of spanning an octave and pentatonic scales are a very convenient for a guitarist. They are also a really good starting point.

Search the tricks section for the reams and reams dedicated to tonality / pents, chromatics, diatonic, arpeggios etc. incorporating Major and (the many different sorts of) minor scale as well as the modes.

Best of luck !

dude... looks to me like you've stumbled upon a tab setup for a scale...

the numbers you have show
1 - 4 = first fret then fourth fret
1 - 3 = first fret then second fret

why don't you look around this site, there is plenty to get you going.

good luck dude and stick with it, the payoff is SOOO worth the work
