One of the questions we get asked the most is, "how long does it take to learn the guitar?" While there isn't a straight answer, there is a better answer than 'everyone learns at a different pace' (though they do!).

Here's the short answer - you can easily learn a few chords and start playing full songs within weeks or even days. The great thing about popular songs or standard chord progressions, like Blues progressions, is once you learn a handful of chords you'll be able to play hundreds of songs. If you are looking to become more of a proficient player or even a soloist, you should set your sights more long term.

Are you wanting to get good at fingerstyle guitar? Do you have aspirations to take ripping solos? Trying to learn Jazz? These techniques and styles will require not only a good amount of hours in the practice room, but also practice over a long period of time. These concepts can become more clear as you spend longer time with them.

We want to hear from you! Where are you at on your guitar journey? How long has it taken you to learn the guitar? At what point can you say you "know" the guitar? Is it entirely up to the individual? Or are there some basic skills needed to be able to claim that you have learned the guitar?
