I was curious to know how much the average Amercian citizen get paid an hour? Because I read posts on harmony-central how cheap the guitar was etc. Prices of guitars Sydney is basically twice the price of American standard prices. I assume the price is set by adding the actual price of guitar and shipping and GST argh!

Down here in Australia an average teenager working would get between $10-$18 roughly depending on how good the job is. After considering the tax (in Oz we get hammered by taxes) and nesessities, the kid has work he's butt off to get a one hell of a guitar.

Are American guitarist well off in that sense that guitars are cheaper? Or is it the same senario in US?

That's the average for that age group... lucky for me I tutor a high school kid and get 25 bucks an hour, but only twice a week. Still the best job for a lazy uni student. Tax free too. But then again your 5 US dollars are around should be around 9 bucks Australian. So I guess it's pretty hard to fork out money for a guitar over there as well.

Just a thought.

It varies from state to state....but also keep in mind that the American Dollar is worth way more than the Australien Dollar. I'm not sure of the minimum wage here in Ca. but I guess it's around $6.50 an hr. so the average australian wage and the average American wage pretty much evens out. And the cost of living in each country is different. Here in Ca. we're taxed up the *ss!
I started learning guitar because of Randy Rhoads..but Yngwie J. Malmsteen is my biggest influence.

In Scotland in the UK, if your 16 you get £2.20 (thats about $3.50 US dollars) when your 18 you get £3.90 ( $5) and when your 21 you can get £4.20 ( $6).
Thats the minimum and believe me thats really common!

5.50 is minimum wage here. I get 13 for punching in numbers on a computer, and when I'm done I get to surf the net. Boring job but it's good pay.

I make 8.50/hour (that's about $260 a week after taxes) and barely scrape by from week to week. Tomorrow's payday and I'm going to roll into work with my van running on fumes.

In canada the average pay a year is about $30 000 so work that out. About 12-15 bucks an hour but thats adult pay so a lot of younger people are probably making less. A gibson les paul standard up here cost about $3500, so its like 10% of a years pay before the 30% removed to taxes!
WWSD? What would stevie do?
