Since you are very interesting in theory and it seems to be only average stuff for a knowledgable guy. The best advice I could give you (and this might sound corny but..) is you should always be willing to learn, especially with music. Don't be the older person who doesn't listen to the younger person cause he/she may not have had the amount of experiences you had. Even a 100 yr old man can learn from a 5 yr old. I may know alot about modes but someone like you meantioned might may have picked up on something (maybe just tricks, and whatever) I haven't thought of. So it's always good to be interested in learning from others no matter how much you think you know or how much more advanced you are. Knowledge doesn't speak to a closed mind, and as humans none of us know everything.
