Hey Mike, was hoping you could tell me which guitar parts you would play for a single guitar version of the Blue Oyster Cult classic. Thanks a lot

Hey Jamboss - that is a very good question!

Here’s how I would do it:

For the intro, I’d play the chord strums from GTR 1, but immediately go into the main melody line of GTR 2.  I’d adjust the F chord into the power chord version with the root on the D str 3rd fret (also add 5th fret G str, 6th fret B str). That way, you are more in the position to quickly transistion to the melody part. I’d stick with GTR 2 for the second part of the intro, with the more adventurous melody.

Verse: I’d play GTR 2 w/ the slap delay.  Pre Chorus and Chorus would be GTR 1.

For all the reintros, I’d stick with the approach from the intro.

Then I would just add the leads and fills on a case by case basis. Whatever seems to fit and transition well from the main parts.  Obviously you’d want to play the complete guitar solo.  But I probably wouldn’t do any of the leads from the reintros or outro sections - just stick with that main melody.

Perhaps you have a pitch pedal you can kick in to handle the harmony on those parts.

Hope this helps - let me know how it goes!

Mike
