In this lesson, Anders M bars with the index finger and frets with his middle finger and pinky. I find it less of a strain to use the ring finger instead of the middle finger - for example, lets say I'm barring the 6th fret, then my ring finger can reach the 8th fret easier than my middle finger, and my pinky has no trouble reaching the 10th fret with my ring finger on the 8th fret. But is it better to use the same fingering as Anders? For example, might we want the ring finger to be free for some technique I have not learned yet?

While Anders M bars with his index finger and frets with his middle finger and pinky, it's not uncommon for individuals to find alternative fingerings that work better for them based on their hand size, flexibility, and personal comfort. If you find it less strainful to use your ring finger instead of the middle finger for fretting, it's perfectly acceptable to adopt that approach. The choice of fingerings often depends on individual preference and adaptability. While there may be specific techniques that require the ring finger to be free, it's not necessary to adhere strictly to Anders' fingering unless you encounter specific challenges or limitations in your playing style. Ultimately, the goal is to find a fingering that allows you to play comfortably and efficiently.

While there may be specific techniques that require the fingers to be properly positioned, Anders' finger placement is not necessarily strictly adhered to. You can find another convenient way that better suits your hand structure.  Vampire Survivors
