Well last time I was at a band prac, my floyd rose went nuts and one of my strings broke... now sounds quite noraml, but it was my first encounter with a japanese made floyd. Well it's original (its sez on the bridge and the guy who sold me the guiat), made by fernandes but funny thing is that there was no gauge at the end of the string. It was cut off and held onto the bridge by the nuts/bolts.

Now is this common? The guy down at the rehearsal studio didn't know anything either did I. I didn't really check this out when I bought the guitar (regret :( ) Is my floyd a sh*tty floyd? :)

yep - thats how a floyd rose works - the ball end is cut off and the string is then fixed with a little metal-cube that is held by a screw.

Hahaha LOL :D

Another fine example of "it's the skill of the player that counts, not the price of the guitar"

Yeah , for most FR sys , you cut off the ball end of the string before fixing it into the bridge .

But I've seen some newer FR sys (on an Ibanez as far as I can remember) that is strung without cutting the ball end like a normal guitar.

Anyway , it's not hard or time wasting ... Cuting the ball off all the strings takes less than a min.

Well I just freaked out at first expected the ball to be there, so did that guy who was helping me. He raved on about his ESP's floyd being different

Well good learning exprience nonetheless...

By the way , some string packages doen't have a ball-end ... I remember that I've seen a pack of GHS without ball-ends, I think it was called GHS Floyd or something like that.

Too bad khaler isn't around anymore. It kick's Floyd's but.
And thank god all of my guitars have khalers installed. I even replaced the Floyd in my Ibanez Sabre with a khaler :-)
I started learning guitar because of Randy Rhoads..but Yngwie J. Malmsteen is my biggest influence.

oops spelling...I think it may be kahler and not khaler.
Or maybe I'm still wrong on the spelling....but some of you older guys may know what I'm talking about :-)

Hey dude, I heard about Kahlers and they are still available by the way.

Can you talk more about 'em ? How do they work and stuff like that ?
