I have a Yamaha acoustic and I'm unable to get the B string to tune to B. The tuner was showing it as a G, I tightened the tuning peg to very sharp G and then it jumps to E(1st string) on the tuner, loosen the tuning peg and drops back to G. Can never get any B tone? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What mode is your tuner set to? Sounds like it could be set to something other than guitar.

Does it have a chromatic setting? If so, try that.

Tune the G string and then fret the G string at the fourth fret (B note). Tune your B relative to that. If you still can't get the B in tune then the string could be hanging at the nut or there's a problem at the bridge.

If that works then there's a problem with your electronic tuner.

I don't understand why you would be getting D# and E, because B is nowhere near that pitch. Are you using a tuner designed only for bass guitar? There isn't a B string on a four string bass, so a tuner set for bass guitar wouldn't pick up the correct pitch for a B string.

I don't think it's a problem with the string sticking at the nut, as that wouldn't stop you getting closer to the pitch.

Try watching some videos on how to tune a guitar

It sounds like you need to tune down further, or up. Start by turning the tuning peg all the way down until the string is almost slack. Gradually tune up to pitch. It sounds like you might be missing the B because you didn't start low enough.

It's possible that the string is so old that it won't settle into a stable desired pitch. Or that something is wrong with the bridge.

You might want to take it to a local guitar shop! Hope that helps!

I had an odd problem like that. Try a new battery in the tuner. See if that fixes the issue..
