Hi Mike,

Any suggestions for an easier way for a beginner to fret the chord up the neck for the piano riff?

My first finger really isn't up to strength yet for the barring on the top 3 strings on the 9th fret.

Thanks

Hey Elias! Indeed, this is a challenging chord for a beginner!

My suggestion would be to omit the note that's at the 11th fret of the 4th string (D string) and only pick the notes fretted on the top 3 strings. This should make it a little easier to get your fingers into the correct position.

[br]You could replace that first note of each phrase by picking the 9th fret of the G string instead. This will mean you will pick that note twice at the beginning of each phrase.

Make sense? Let. me know how it goes!

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply!

I tried fretting only the top 3 strings on the 9th fret, but I'm not sure i follow on the second part for when it goes back to A in the video, the pinky is in the B string before coming off. How would I do this fretting only the 3 top strings on the 9th fret without using the pinky on the B of the 12th?

Try raising your index finger up for the second part so that it is only fretting the 9th fret of the 3rd string. It is not necessary to bar down for every part.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks again Mike! It's getting better with this approach, but I'll keep practicing it as it remains sloppy for me, especially the second part.
