Hi, friends,

I notice that Lisa never uses her pinky when fretting the E and A major scales in those respective tutorials. Relying on her index finger to fret at the 2nd fret means sliding up and down or changing fingers in a couple of places as one goes up and down those scales.

I - quite by accident - started practicing the E scale using my pinky for all the highest-fretted notes, which results in a stretch but leaves my index finger governing the first fret and my middle finger governing the second fret. Is there a compelling reason why I should change to Lisa's fingering pattern, or can I keep using my pinky?

Hi canaan.morse,

Lisa teaches you the scales and is meant for beginners to get used to the fretboard. It's important to train your pinky and you're already ahead of the curve if you're using the pinky.

That's totally cool as long as you're able to hit the notes.
