Hi guys. I just joined guitartricks and i love it. There is a lot of valuable and good material here for everyone who wants to learn guitar or improve your skill. There is one thing missing here which i think helped me the most while i was learning.

A while back i joined online classical guitar lessons. The way it worked was that once you have learned a piece you had to record it and post it on the website. Other students and mentors would then comment on it and point out the mistakes you had to rectify. You then went over the song again and repost a new video. I think its a great way to see your progress.

Recording yourself was a real eyeopener for me. When you see yourself playing you will pick up issues and mistakes you might have missed otherwise. Also other people encourage and critique really helped me to stay focused and motivated. Also i was able to eliminate bad habits i didnt even know i had them.

New players who never took lessons will benefit immensly... Dont buy expensive stuff, use your smartphone to record yourself is more than enough. In this forum there is already a topic where you can submit your recording. Use it!!! It would be great if guitartricks would promote this and encourage players to upload videos.

Anyway, keep up the good work GT!

I am doing some video recording of me playing and then sending it to an instructor for evaluation (not through Guitar Tricks). He sends a critique video back to me.

But just the act of recording and reviewing before I send it is hugely informative (and depressing)

Even just the act of recording is helpful because it forces one to concentrate. I wish that I had started doing this sooner.
