Been playing a short while and using a buddy's Fender Tele deluxe Chris Shiflet model.

After 14 years of paying the ex, I want a guitar I will want to play every day. I am thinking about the new PRS Silver Sky `John Mayer model. seems to be a diverse guitar. Have watched many reviews and seems to check all my boxes. The only concern I have would be the low frets and roundness of the fretboard. But since I am fairly new I don't think I would know the difference??? Anyone....

Thoughts..... Be anyone that owns one would be great.

That's a nice looking guitar! But it's also a lot of money to pay out on something you haven't tried first. If you're main concern is the 7.25" radius neck I would try a guitar with that radius first just to make sure you like it, personally 7.25" is my favourite neck radius but it's definitely going to feel different if you've never played one before.

Go play guitars. There is always the 'idea' of a guitar you want and then when you play it, it falls flat for you. As much as people love a Gibson Les Paul Custom, I hate playing Customs. A Les Paul Traditional with a 60's Slim Taper (Jeff looks at his avatar...), I love it. You'd think 'well, a Les Paul is a Les Paul'. It's not.

Point being is that you have to have the guitar in hand so that it can speak to you. If you've been playing at least for a little bit, you probably have a sense of what you like when you feel it.

When I used to hang out at a store in the 80's (per dudes that had to deal with me milling around), I tried lots of guitars. Lots of them. I was surprised at how some guitars that people loved, I did not.

So, if you have a decent store around you, good idea to go playing them. You sound like you have a good budget so that opens a lot of choices for you. Use that ability to try stuff out first.

sounds like a plan. I am just gonna keep playing with what I have for another year, and then start seriously looking for "the Guitar" I want. I am too new at this to make a major purchase without enough skill or knowledge yet. My tastes could change by then anyway

If your buddy lets continue on that Tele, that's certainly a great way to go. Great guitar. Sure, someday you'll want your own. Until then....

I can't comment on the Silver Sky model because I haven't played one. But I can tell you it will be very hard to go wrong with about any PRS guitar. Their fit, finish, and playability are just unbelievable. And they are just so stunning to look at.
