SRV mood

Im getting a rather rude mood by this. On Stevie RV's song, "rood mood" he does this thing at the beginning that is frustrating me. He mutes the string after every note, and i keep trying it, but its hard. There has to be an easier way to mute a string and go back to the original note. Does anyone know how to do this.
