Hi everyone. I'll worship anybody who can help me with this PLEASE!

Im sure you will all remember when you started you all learnt this scale:

------------------------------------0-
------------------------------0--3----
---------------------0--2--3----------
---------------0--2-------------------
------0--1--2-------------------------
0--4----------------------------------

I think it's the A min Blues Pentatonic or something like that! You can use it starting anywhere and it always fits into the music perfectly.

What I think is there of course must be a modal thing where it goes all the way up the whole fret-board but I cant find it anywhere! I really want to know that because then I will be able to jam anywhere on the fretboard to blues, and not be constricted only to 4 frets!

Thanks a lot.

Looks like an E blues scale to me. I just don't know what that Ab is doing in there. If it was a true E blues pentatonic, the first line would be --0-3--, instead of the --0-4--. The Ab would be the major 3rd from E, and so gives it a major sound when resolving back to E.

If you want the whole scale (across the fretboard) the easiest thing to do would be to go to Wholenote.com.

It just so happens theat saying pentatonic blues scale it incorrect. Blues scales have six notes, that would make it a hexatonic scale. But most people just say blues scale, so just forget I said anything.

Christoph - is there any chance you could do me a MASSIVE favour? I really don't have a clue what I'm doing with all this stuff - theory's not my strong point. Could you get the url for the mode list of that scale? I can't find it!

Thanks so much mate - if you can't be arsed then don't worry. :)

I dont have a list or the names of the modes for that scale, but you could just start on any note of the scale, and play through to the next octave of that note.

Yeah, they changed that website a little bit. It's harder to find the good stuff now.

As far as I know, the inversions of the blues scale don't have any names. Here's the link -

The blues scale is actually derived from the pentatonic scale, the slaves would sing melodies from the penta. and then bend the one note out of tune for tension, so in reallity there basically the same scale. Plus wherever the pentatonic scale would fit so would the blues.
