what's with this site? do the people that win combats get prizes? I never care to look after I saw they want 5 bones just to look inside - if they don't pay the winners of combat, they suck - like record execs - sap all the cash - you can trade licks with anyone, any time..."the best licks"??? Let's hear some of them for free and then we'll see...I bet every last one is pretty harsh on the ears...

Can't they just place ads up and make cash off the clicks, instead of raping everyone that wants to play online a bit? Corporate style crap if they don't pay the winners cash - cause they'll be charging other people for your fuing licks...

Now, now Posporo.
I've had my '**** liberalism' days, but your thinking isn't right in this.
As you might know, (or not) we are actually going through an internet advertisement crisis, meaning people don't pay as much as they used to. I have a couple of site of my own, and I wanted to make banner ads appear on them to pay for the .com registration (that's around 10 bucks a year or something). Well, you have several ways to get paid, one of the rarest is 'number of banners seen' meaning that for each guy connecting to a page of your site, you get money. Another one is for each click on the banner. But the amount of money you get is ridiculous, something like 25 cents for every 500 people seeing the ad, or the same amount for 100 clicks. Now, you might know that unless you site is yahoo.com or amazon.com or nakedchicks.com, if you go over 1000 visits per month, you're lucky. And that amounts to: 50 cents, or 2.50 dollars. To host a site, (not registering the .com) you pay money. Usually, you have 100Mo for it. And on guitarwar, there's 10/20 times that amount. The least I have seen for 100Mo is 4 bucks. That means that there's around 40/80 bucks in hosting per month. I think that since there's a lot of DL in it, it's more like 300 bucks. Then, there's the time running the site. Unless he's won the lottery, I think the webmaster deserves to eat. Well...If I'm wrong, correct me on the numbers.

hey Limace, yeah I had no clue the clicks give you so little...didn't they give 10c or maybe 15 cents per click in the old day, like 1998-1999? But 25c for 1000 clicks...man that sucks...

...my bad...it just felt strange to have to pay 5 bucks to hear some licks when you can just listen to some tricks here...or al over the net, for free...but now I can appreciate how chinsy those payments for banners are...

GuitarWar isn't only about licks, it's about TUNES. You write a song, and you submit it there, and people tell you if they like it or not, and, more importantly, WHY. If you're into guitar music, go there. For 5 bucks per months, you can DL all you want to listen to.

Actually it goes a bit more like this -

One person submits a cool tune that took him a lot of work, and someone else posts 45 seconds of garbage shredding. Then everyone listens to the two and clicks like mad on the latter, all the while shouting, "Ohhhh a lot of pointless 80's hairmetal shredding!!!! . . . Woooowwww!!!"

Yeah, I suppose I'm a bit bitter.
