Who is this Yngwienie I keep hearing about?

What band is he in?

Yngwie Malmsteen is a solo artist. He does this "neo-classical" style. I havent heard much of his music but he is a very advanced player. Nice and shreddy with lots of use of modes and stuff.

yngwie malmsteen is the man!

To me is one of the best metal guitar soloist alive today, some may disagree but he is one of the fastest. You should listen to him, if your into really fast and crazy solo's and riffs. Matter of fact if your into guitar, you should check him out anyways.

He has his own little section on this site.. that's all I know :D (besides the stuff I just read).

and he played in the band called alcatarz
and then they kicked him and replaced him with steve vai.
many people see him as the guy who started shredding.

Imagine if they had kept him and got steve vai. That would have been one wicked arse guitar rock band. haha. Yeah I know both are doing fine, and they probably wouldn't have gotten along. Both being very creativity and they would have clashed heads. But it would have been interesting.

yeah it could be a cool band though they styles are completley different

Yngwie MALMSTEEM single handedly took the shred-movement to new heights, then to new lows, when he did, re-did, re-re-did the same albums. He does have killer chops, a really killer sound (that has inspired the YJM308 boss pedal) and one of the worst attitude in guitardom. He is, in my opinion, a guitarist that deserves lots of respect, but he also is one that deserves the fact that he is hated so much...

I think people cannot take his brutal honesty about the way other guitarists play. Remember that it's his oppinion. If people don't want to hear his responces they should never have asked him these questions. Remember they asked and he honestly asnswered those questions asked of him. That in itself should be applauded and tells you how honest this guy is. Just because his oppinion is one way does not make it fact! It's just his oppinion.

I agree with a lot of what the man says...but I don't agree with everything he says either. I have a lot of respect for him.

Yeah, I noticed yngwie does get a bad rap. And most people say it's because he's very egotistic or he's just an arsehole. whatever you hear. But how many of you actually know him personally to make these judgements? Most have only read about it and heard someone say it, but the truth is you should, "never believe what you hear, believe only half of what you see". Cause the media can cover up and expose whatever they want. So with that in mind, I with continue to respect Yngwie Malmsteen for what I know him as, A musican and nothing else.

i was talking to a guy who actually met malmsteen and he was sayiing that he was a hell of a nice guy, he malmsteen even asked if it was ok for him to jam with this guy, instead of just assuming because of his stature. he is brutally honest, and i think that throws people off. also when he first came on to the seen his was considered one of the best in the world, and was probably very cocky. although i think he's humbled a little.


he is and continues to be one of my favorite guitarists and biggest influences.
