That's a matter of strength & dexterity. For some students it does self correct after enough repetitious practice. The pinky (and other fingers) gradually get more agile over the course of time.

But for some students it's more difficult to acquire the strength & dexterity necessary to achieve smooth, efficient motion.

The spider exercises Lisa uses can help in some of these cases. And I've created these pinky exercises aimed at correcting that problem. The goal here is to keep practicing basic chords while getting in a pinky workout!
