Hi, I recently joined and would like to ask some advice about where to start.

I played acoustic guitar for 6-7 years, strumming and playing self-tought finger picking, playing songs and singing, even wrote some myself but without much ambition or serious focused practicing, just for fun and to relax. I can play open chords and barre chords no problem, most minor, major and 7 chords at various places on the fretboard and know a few special ones learned thorugh songs.

Recently I bought an electric guitar, a Yamaha Pacifica and now I want to study the instument with the goal of becoming a "real" musician, understanding music theory and how to put it into practice; technique and theory for soloing and accompanying; composition skills; probably reading notes. In short: everything. I am ready to invest a fair amount of time into it. So far I have decided to start with blues, because I like it and because I think it is the basis for a lot of other genres. Learning pentatonic minor and major scales right now.

Guitar Tricks have such a vast amount of lessons. Would someone advice me where to start? I am not a beginner on the instrument but I am a beginner at soloing and truly understanding music.

Cheers,

Henrik

Hi ran2far,

Sounds like you have some experience under your belt already. The best place for you to start is perhaps in one of the level 2 courses here: https://www.guitartricks.com/experienced.php

And if you want some advanced theory stuff, look no further than classical: https://www.guitartricks.com/style.php?input=classical

Hope that helps.
