Wah, in the simplest terms, changes the tone of the guitar with the forward and backward motion of the pedal. A wah pedal can make your guitar sound like....
well....

say this 5 times fast:

wicka wacka wicka wacka

He he...never tried to type out the sound before...Check one out at your local guitar shop...they'll hook ya up. The best way to learn is hands on. Let me know if that answers your question.

You'll hear it used in the solos of Sweet child o mine or Voodoo Chile for example.

try some Metallica.. most of Kirk Hammett's solo's have wah..
examples: enter sandman solo, also see S&M video, kirk uses the wah pedal in every song there, it's when you find him puting his foot over a pedal on the ground and moving it back and forward and you'll hear that wahoowaahoowahoo sound .
hope this help

please dont missunderstand me.. i'm a shredder type & i dont like S&M cause it suck , i was just giving you an example.
