Hello Everyone, trying to learn to play at 59. Has always been my dream to play and now retired and giving it all I have. My fingers just are having a hard time keeping up with the instructor, but not going to give up because I'm very hardheaded at my age. Nice to be in the group!!

Took two weeks for my fingers to stop stinging and hurting! Now if I can get my fingers to move faster on the fretboard and keep up with the instructor, I will be happy. As they say, Practice, Practice and more practice. I don't like using a Pick either, slows me down....

Don't understand why I can't make my fingers stretch from fret to fret. Seems easy but I getting very frustrated with myself! Any advice?? Can't get that fourth finger to do anything I want it to!!

I know the feelIng! It was like that for me when I started in December. I always do Lisa's SpiderLegs exercises HERE when I practice, and eventually my pinky started behaving! It does take a few weeks, at least it did for me, so keep at it!

Miamiheat hit the nail on the head! The spyder legs exercise really help. It is not important how fast you do them so start very slowly.

Thanks everyone, I'm doing the spider legs exercises as a warmup before starting with the courses but still having issues. I'm bending my fingers, stretching them but it's very hard to make those fingers go where you want them to go. I'll keep going but will slow it down to a crawl if needed. What's hard is trying to keep up with Lisa on the melodies changing strings at the pace of the music. Anybody know anything else I should try please give me some pointers. I really would to lick this in the bud so I can move on. Is it just me or I'm just not getting it. Thanks

It's great that you are here!

My father teaches another instrument to seniors and I see how they have so much fun. Hang in there!
