Hello Mike been playing a while, first song lesson trying, have completed fundamentals one and two.

Having a problem figuring out the co ordination between right and left hand using the tab or the video. I guess this is a new style of learning for me. I ve tried going to half speed but not much luck.

I'm hearing

E (mute) (mute) G (mute) (mute) D D C C C (mute)

if my notation makes any sense.

I certainly see you mute right after the first E but thats it I think. Perhaps I'm hearing the open strings as a mute?

I guess I'm more used to the "strum E chord strum muted strings strum open strings" kind of notation.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Dave, yes that second mute is a muted strum of the open strings while you change chords with your fretted hand.

Also note that the first 3 chord changes (E, G, D) all happen right on the beat, while the change to the C chord happens on the and-of-2 - which is known as a "push" or "anticipation."

One strategy is to just try one strum on each chord change, and make sure you are changing on all the correct beats. Then experiment with filling in with the strums in between.

Hope this helps!

Let me know how it goes,

Mike
