I've been messing about with sweep picking since january , i still can't nail it. like teh part in the intro solo of 'one' (metallica) i can play it but its not fast enough. Also children of bodom and ynwi sweeps give me trouble as well. Problem is that I can play arpeggios but they don't sound fast enough.
the ones i've beenm practicing with are

Basic (1) (2) From 'one'

Children of bodom (don't worry an easy one) These three are done quick @ 230bpm so it should take 2-4 seconds to play this. It takes me 8

these are some easy ones but i can't nail the speed.
I can include another 8 by Yngwi but the post would b 2 long. how can i improve my speed.

Speed comes with time and practice. Play it clean, increase the speed with a metronome, if you don't play it cleanly, slow it down etc... Anything is playable as long as it's practiced slowly.

As lalimacefolle said, the key point in order to increase your speed together with your accuracy is to use the metronome. And this particulary true for arpeggios.

Trys to do it slowly and increase step by step the metronome, days after days ... a lot of works and you will surely do it ...

You can check some of the exercices (tabs illustrated with an mp3) I put on my website : http://www.guitarweb.net

Thanx for the suggestions ...
How long does it take to play arppegios like children of bodom.
I've been taking guitar lessons for a year and my guitar teacher was impressed at my speed of improvemnet but its not good enough. He said it would take a minimum of 3 years to master arpeggios. though he said i crammed a months worth of practice in a week ... he said thats not the way to learn how to play the guitar as its learning not a race.

Whatever ... i need to speed up the arpeggios to anything above 200 bpm and i am practicing with a metronome. But its been 5 months already. It took me two months to change my picking style where i use the broader side of the pic and i had to learn how to use a pic all over again. It took me less time to learn how to tap - (still working on 8 finger tapping) ...
oh well i'm one hell of an impatiant mofo but hey ... it pays off once its all over with.

like i mentioned in another post, practice as much as poss, and a metronome helps loads, don't speed up at all until you can play the song or solo perfect, with a metronome you can guage how fast you are getting, which is encouraging, a month ago,i couldn't sweep, I'm sort of getting there, i can do about a sweep and a half a second now, so just practice as much as poss
