would a compressor work? or what else?
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

Just work on it slow, or use distortion.

Turn up the drive. Add a little chorus. Make sure your guitar is on the neck pickup. Turn the treble up. Oh, and make sure you have your amp on. :)

Maybe this is a too expensive option,
but HotRail mics are great for tapping.
They have more attack.
Anyway if you use tapping alot maybe
thats a good alternative.

You can always use a pick to do the right-hand-tapping,
that will make it louder, but then 8-finger tapping
is out of the question.

I use a pick to do my right hand tapping, but, if you can use your finger, you get a nice "Round" sound. If you can get a compressor, i'd recommend that in addition to maybe a wee bit of flange or chorus or something. But, compression, i think, is the main thing to have when tapping. Also, make sure to turn your distortion/Drive up plenty high. If that doesn't helpl ya, try tapping harder (duh) c ya
