any good theory books
I'm looking for some books on music theory. I've noticed amazon has some specifically for guitar around fretboard theory. Are there any you all can recommend? I'm basically a beginner guitarist but want to understand about the different scales and modes and other theory related items. Are there any single books that are comprehensive in their discussion of theory?

First & foremost, I've never seen one book that covers it all. Writing one myself is a long term goal. :) However, for fretboard theory & practice, this book is fairly comprehensive & has lots of practical applications.

Since you have access to GT, start here with my tutorials covering a lot of this material. The first four chapters in GF2 are essentially a primer in music theory for guitar.

Start at the beginning with intervals then you'll gradually work through the very basics in intervals, scales, triads & how chords & scales are related to each other.
Or if you are beyond that, then check out these more advanced tutorials to get more in depth.

Always remember, the most important thing about theory is how you apply it.
If you've seen those & want more, just let me know. I can point you to tons of other GT tutorials that will also show you more about how to learn theory and apply it to rock guitar playing. Ask more if necessary & have fun with it!

If you write that book you have to post here. I would buy it! I credit you and your lessons on me being so deep into playing guitar (and the amount of money I have spent on equipment for this hobby hehe)

I'm glad you are getting value from my lessons! Maybe I should open a store to sell gear along with my not-yet-finished theory book. :)

I learned so much from the following book;
Harmony and Theory Workbook: MI Press
I actually did most of the book before I attended Musicians Institute in 2005. I found this extremely helpful, and it moved at a good pace for me as at the time I had an OK grip on theory but needed a workbook to actually apply it. I can't say enough great things about that book and how it helped me. It has also helped thousands of others around the world.
