I am having trouble getting the A chord. I think my fingers are somewhat normal size but I can't seem to get all three fingers in the single fret. Any suggestions on how you learned the A chord would be greatly appreciated. Aloha!!

Everybody has the same reaction - "how are all these fingers supposed to fit on here?" but you'll get there. The key is to make sure the 3rd finger on the b string curves enough to not hit the high e string. Also feel free to make the fingers diagonal with the index finger closer to the headstock than the 3rd finger is.

Hope that helps?

Mostly just keep at it.

When you get playing in tempo with some sprightly songs, you'll find that you'll have to do whatever you're capable of to make that chord in time. That can mean playing it with one finger, two, or three. With the A in the open position there are times when you'll eventually want to accentuate only parts of it or mute the 3rd for a power chord. Feeling rigidly conformist to one way of playing it will limit you. The sun will still come up the next day and audiences aren't taking style points on chord fingerings. If it's an uncomfortable thing, don't let conformity stand in your way. (My 2 coppers). :)

So when it come time to learn the open F, remember this day. One day an open F will just work also. Congratulations for staying at it.
