I know the mixolydian sounds great over any 7th chord.
How ya doin.

Mostly, yes! You'll also get a left over minor 3rd.
Major pentatonic: 1st - 2nd - major 3rd - 5th - major 6th
Minor pentatonic: 1st - minor 3rd - 4th - 5th - minor 7th
Combined: 1st - 2nd - minor 3rd - major 3rd - 4th - 5th - major 6th - minor 7th
It's also helpful to think of mixolydian as a major scale but with a minor 7th. And then visualize it in a major pentatonic box. Like this!

I contrast them here.

The whole tutorial is a good intro to visualizing modes, playing them, and most importantly hearing how they each have unique sounds.Originally Posted by: axe2I know the mixolydian sounds great over any 7th chord.
Dominant 7th chords to be precise! Not so much major 7th or minor 7th chords.
