I know the pentatonic minor scale. What scale would you all suggest I learn next to broaden my chops? What is used most often after the pentatonic? (I'm into rock/alternative). I would appreciate your thoughts!

Have you played with the pentatonic major scale? They are the same shapes, just positioned differently with the roots in different locations. You can get some interesting sounds switching between the two.

Another thing you can do is add chord tones. There you are using the usual pentatonic shape, but adding notes from the chord you are playing over to the 5 notes in the pentatonic scale.

Do you have all 5 positions of the pentatonic scale?
Next like maggior said learn all 5 position of mj pentatonic.
Then I would learn all 5 box shapes of the blues scale...

Yes, I know all 5 positions of the pentatonic and surprised of the ease of the mj pentatonic. I don't know all of the 5 box shapes of the blue scale. Guess I'll tackle that next! Know I'm getting ahead of myself but where do I go after the 5 box shapes (I'm have 8 weeks of vacation and I'm practicing about 3+hours a day so I'm very motivated!)

Thanks!

It's great to know a bunch of scales! And it's better to be able to play them across the fretboard. But best of all is being able to use what you know to play music.

With all that in mind, here are the diatonic major & minor scales across the fretboard.

Here are the 7 modes of the major scale.

And how to practice them to use them in making use of each sound.

And don't forget to go through the Rock course in which Anders does a great job of showing how to use his stuff. A little bit of each scale or mode goes a long way to making music!

Have fun!
