A few weeks ago I started learning Alive, by Pearl Jam. I can play the solo at around 75% speed. I don't spend a ton of time focused on this one song, but I do throw it in the rotation of daily songs/riffs I work on.

I'd like to hear from people who can play this solo at full speed with no problems and also from people who aren't quite there yet. How long have you been playing guitar? How long did it take for you to get where you currently are on this song? Do you play every day? How long? What kind of practice routine?

I guess I'm a little disappointed in my progress. I started playing guitar 7 years ago but only got serious 1.5 years ago. I feel that I should be faster and have less trouble learning songs. I play every day, anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours.

Advice please.
Thanks.

I think it might be more helpful...and you might get some better advice...if you outlined what your practice sessions and schedules look like.

"I play every day, anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours" sounds kinda haphazard to me. Fifteen minutes is not much more than a long warm-up...it certainly won't let you do much more than get caught up with what was practiced the day before. It might let you keep fresh on what is already learned but it's hard to imagine moving forward and learning new things on such a small time block.

Establish what you want to learn/practice and assign practice time to each of those objectives. Anything less than 30 minutes a day in total is going to hold you back or, at the least, make your progress verrry sloowww. IMO.

There are lots of lessons and tips about how to practice both throughout the internet and here on GT. Here's three on GT...take a look;

"It takes a lot of devotion and work, or maybe I should say play, because if you love it, that's what it amounts to. I haven't found any shortcuts, and I've been looking for a long time."
